In-depth

Everything you need to know

Hardware breakdown, build recommendations, and tuning advice for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6).

Grand Theft Auto VI: the biggest game launch in PC history

GTA 6 is shaping up to be the most anticipated game of the decade. While the initial launch in November 2026 is a console exclusive (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series), the inevitable PC release is what serious gamers are planning hardware around.

Rockstar PC ports are typically the definitive version: uncapped frame rates, improved draw distances, photo mode enhancements and modding support. GTA V on PC remains one of the best selling PC games of all time more than a decade after its initial release.

Why build a GTA 6 PC now?

There are three good reasons to build for GTA 6 ahead of the PC release. First, current hardware will easily handle the PC port when it arrives. Second, building now lets you enjoy everything else in the meantime: Cyberpunk 2077, Black Myth: Wukong, Helldivers 2 and the rest. Third, the RTX 50 series and Ryzen 9000 series are the platforms most likely to receive game-day driver and patch optimisation.

What we expect from GTA 6 system requirements

Based on Rockstar's past patterns and the visual ambition of leaked GTA 6 footage, our expectations for the PC release are demanding but reasonable. We anticipate native 4K Ultra to require an RTX 5080 minimum, with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D or better as the CPU pairing. 1440p high should be playable on an RTX 5070 Ti, and 1080p should be accessible on the RTX 5060 Ti tier.

Recommended GTA 6 ready build

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D or Ryzen 9 9950X3D
  • GPU: RTX 5080 (1440p) or RTX 5090 (4K)
  • RAM: 32GB DDR5-6000 CAS 30
  • Storage: 2TB PCIe Gen 5 NVMe (GTA 6 will be a large install)
  • PSU: 1000W 80+ Gold ATX 3.1 minimum
FAQ

Common questions

Is there a confirmed GTA 6 PC release date?

No, Rockstar have not announced the PC version. Based on history (GTA V console to PC was 18 months, RDR2 was 12 months), we estimate late 2027 or early 2028 for PC.

Should I wait for GTA 6 PC requirements before buying a PC?

No. Current flagship hardware (RTX 5080 / 5090, Ryzen 9800X3D / 9950X3D) will comfortably handle GTA 6 when it lands. Building now means you enjoy all the great games available right now in the meantime.

Will my PC need DLSS 4 for GTA 6?

Almost certainly for 4K Ultra at high frame rates, yes. Frame Generation in particular is rapidly becoming the new normal for flagship visuals at high refresh.

Will GTA 6 support modding on PC?

Rockstar PC releases have always supported modding (within their guidelines). We expect GTA 6 to follow that pattern, with a thriving mod scene appearing within months of the PC release.
