Does MSFS 2024 need a 5090?

For 4K Ultra at 60+ FPS in dense city scenery, yes. The RTX 5080 is borderline, the 5090 is comfortable. At 1440p Ultra a 5070 Ti or 5080 is plenty.

Will VR work on these builds?

Yes, but VR adds substantial overhead. We recommend RTX 5090 for VR users on Pimax Crystal class headsets. RTX 5080 is fine for Quest 3 and Valve Index.
