Three flavours of Minecraft, three different hardware needs

Vanilla Minecraft, especially the Java edition, is one of the lightest games on PC. Even integrated graphics will run it at 200+ FPS. Add modded shaders, however, and the picture changes completely. Modern shader packs are surprisingly demanding and a flagship GPU still drops below 60 FPS in some scenarios.

The official Minecraft RTX (path traced, Bedrock edition) is the most demanding. A genuine flagship RTX 5080 or 5090 is needed to play it at native 4K with full ray tracing.

CPU matters for Minecraft Java more than most games

Minecraft Java is single thread CPU bound at high render distances. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D with its 3D V-Cache is genuinely the best gaming CPU for modded Minecraft, comfortably outperforming Intel's top chips because of how Minecraft uses memory.

Yes, surprisingly. Native 4K Minecraft RTX with high render distance is one of the most punishing scenarios for any GPU. We recommend RTX 5080 minimum and 5090 for 4K 60+ FPS comfort.

Will a 9800X3D really help in Minecraft Java?

Yes, very noticeably. The 9800X3D delivers 30 to 50 per cent higher chunk loading and view distance frame rates than the 9700X in Java edition with mods.

Is 32GB RAM needed for Minecraft modpacks?
