Now this is a birthday present and a half! We were chuffed to build this all-white powerhouse for a local Stevenage dad treating his son to a serious gaming PC for his 14th birthday, and the brief was wonderfully specific: hit 240fps in Fortnite, and chew through FC26 without breaking a sweat. Spec a PC properly for competitive Fortnite and FC26 comes along for the ride beautifully, so that is exactly what we did.
Like a lot of our enquiries these days, this one started with a ChatGPT-generated spec. It is a great way to get a feel for the components, but the AI had reached for previous-generation parts (a Ryzen 7900X3D and a B650E board) at prices that simply do not reflect today's market. Memory, CPUs and GPUs are all sitting at near record highs right now thanks to the AI boom. So we did what we always do: brought it up to current-generation, checked everything was genuinely in stock in the UK, and built it for real.
At the heart sits the AMD Ryzen 9 9900X3D, the current-gen Zen 5 chip with AMD's 3D V-Cache, and that big slab of cache is exactly what makes the X3D series the gaming champion it is. Paired with the ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 5070 Ti OC 16GB, there is masses of headroom to push Fortnite to those high frame rates, with 16GB of VRAM keeping things future-proof. One honest tip for the lucky birthday boy: to actually see all 240fps, you will want a 240Hz monitor on the end of it, as the PC will happily deliver them.
The real treat here is the look. With the colour swapped to white before we started the build (good spot from Dad!), we have paired the white Pure Base 501 Airflow case with a white ASUS motherboard and white RGB Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 memory for a properly coherent, clean all-white theme. It is the sort of rig a 14-year-old is going to be very proud to have on their desk. The be quiet! chassis keeps airflow high and noise low, the DeepCool AK620 Digital Pro keeps the X3D cool, and the 750W Corsair Gold PSU is sized exactly right for a 5070 Ti with room to spare.
Best of all, it was hand-built, tested and delivered in good time for the big day on 6 May. Local customer, proper current-gen parts, and one very happy household.
